ACCA F4 -  Corporate and Business Law

Introduction

Studying for the F4 exam

The content of this Knowledge Bank is not designed to be a substitute for a structured system of study towards the exams but rather should help complement your chosen study system.

In particular,

  • we do not guarantee full syllabus coverage,
  • the knowledge bank focusses on knowledge, concepts and ideas but has very few worked examples or graded exercises for you to practice,
  • there are no past exam questions here to attempt
  • examiner's articles are not repeated here.

We highly recommend that you complete a structured course of study and obtain text books and exam kits to improve your chances of exam success.

Using the Kaplan Financial Knowledge Bank

The main benefits of the way the content is presented and accessed via the Knowledge Bank are as follows:

  • a quick answer to a quick question - if you have a F4 query then you should be able to access a trusted answer quickly and efficiently using either the search function, the top navigation bars or /and the side navigation.
  • integrated knowledge - examiners often criticise students for not appreciating how different topics fit together. By following the structured links and navigation bars in the content, you can explore related concepts to integrate your knowledge.

The ACCA F4 syllabus

A good page to start on if you are unclear where to begin would be the overview Law page and then explore further using the menu on the RHS.

Other useful starting points for exploration are linked to syllabus areas below.

The syllabus for F4 is split into 8 main areas:

A Essential elements of the legal system

The best place to start here is with the Legal System page. From here you can access pages such as The Human Rights Act and the UK Court System.

B The law of obligations

Both Contract Law and the law of Tort can be accessed starting with the Law of Obligations page.

C Employment law

The best place to start here is with the Employment Law page.

D The formation and constitution of business organisations

The Business Organisation page is a good starting point here and has links to areas such as Agency Law , Partnerships , etc.

E Capital and the financing of companies

The Capital and Financing page and its associated links, has sufficient detail for F4. If you wish to investigate financing further, then you should go to the Corporate Finance page and its links.

F Management, administration and regulation of companies

The Company Management and Administration page is your best place to start here.

G Legal implications relating to companies in difficulty or in crisis

The Insolvency page has sufficient detail, especially if you also look at the other pages linked via the top menu.

H Governance and ethical issues relating to business

The Corporate Governance and Ethics page is pitched at the right level for F4. If you want to study further, then you could look at the Governance page and/or Ethics page.
