Process theories
Process theories form a series of possible explanations of motivation.
They ask the question: "
how are people motivated?" in contrast to
content theories, which ask "
what motivates people?"
They attempt to explain how individuals start, sustain and direct behaviour and assume that individuals are able to select their own goals and means of achieving those goals through a process of calculation.
Process theories change the emphasis form needs to the goals and processes by which workers are motivated.
Theories
There are many different process theories but the one covered in this knowledge bank is Vroom's expectancy model.
