Supervision
A supervisor is a person given responsibility for planning and controlling the work of a group of employees. They are responsible for ensuring that the specified tasks are performed correctly and efficiently by the group.
Supervisors are the lowest level of management and act as the interface between management and the workforce. They work on the front line of the organisation, which means that they have several key functions:
- as well as supervision, they will also undertake technical or operational work alongside the group that they supervise
- supervisors will typically be expected to provide advice and support to their teams in order to solve problems
- they will usually monitor work by means of detailed, daily information. Supervisors will often then have to periodically summarise this information and pass it to more senior management for review.
